Getting involved

Do I need to be a member to help out?

No! Everyone is welcome to participate in our working bees regardless of membership status. Whether you are a local resident or just visiting the area, we would love to have your help.

When and where are working bees held?

We hold regular working bees at two main locations:

  • Marcus Beach: Every Wednesday at 7:00 am. Meet at Beach Access 46, Tristania Drive.
  • Peregian Creek: The 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:00 am. Meet at Beach Access 49.
  • Note: Our partner, South Peregian Bushcare, also meets on Thursdays from 7:30 am to 9:30 am at various sites between Beach Access 59–67.

Please check our events calendar for the latest information.

Can tourists / visitors to the area attend?

Yes! We welcome everyone to come along to our working bees – either to help or just to find out what we are doing

What should I bring to a session?

Please bring:

  • A hat and sun protection.
  • Enclosed, sturdy footwear (required for safety).
  • A water bottle.
  • A smile!
  • Your interest to learn about local fauna and flora.
Are tools and equipment provided?

Yes. We provide all necessary weeding and planting tools. We also provide morning tea and a chance to socialise with fellow volunteers after the session.

What can I expect to see, do and learn at a working bee?

Every bushcare session is unique. You may be involved with a number of activities.

You pull out weeds, plant native trees, and clean up rubbish. You learn about native plants, animal homes, and how to protect the local environment. You also meet friendly people and help your community grow a healthy, green space.
OR
Joining bushcare is your chance to step away from screens, breathe in fresh air, and feel the ultimate satisfaction of transforming your local environment! It is an energetic, rewarding outdoor adventure where you can directly interact with  nature and see your impact instantly.
Why You’ll Love It
  • Instant gratification: Watch a weed-choked environments transformed.
  • Exclusive wildlife encounters: Spot  birds,  insects, and, if you are lucky, larger local wildlife up close in their natural homes.
  • The ultimate green gym: Trade the boring indoor treadmill for a refreshing, full-body workout in nature.
  • Legendary community vibes: Share laughs, swap stories, and bond over a well-earned cuppa with fantastic, like-minded people.

What experience do I need to come along?

None!

Bushcare is a physically demanding activity that requires a basic level of fitness and mobility. Volunteers routinely engage in repetitive bending, lifting and navigating uneven or steep terrain. But we can always find jobs to suit all abilities and are happy to discuss your needs.

Can all ages come?

Volunteers under 18 need parental consent, and children under 16 must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian.

Am I covered by any insurance at a working bee?

We have public liability insurance via Queensland water and Land carers Inc.

Plants & Environment

How do I identify weeds in my own garden?

You’ll find useful information in “Our Worst Weeds” section of the website including tips to help locals identify invasive species common to the Noosa area.  Each weed is listed with photos and links to several helpful resources, including the Brisbane City Council Weed Identification Tool and the Weeds Australia website.

Do you provide advice on native gardening?

Yes! We encourage “Gardening with Natives” to support local biodiversity. You can find information on our website here about plants suited for foredunes, sheltered hind-dunes, and swales to help you choose the right species for your coastal property.

Come along to one of our working bees where you can find out more from the team.
